Building confidence at Modbury Special School

A recent trip to the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) has helped students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) build confidence thanks to a sports program run by the University of South Australia with Modbury Special School.

Once a week UniSA students from a range of disciplines play sport with students who have ASD from Modbury High School as part of the Integrated Sports Program.

Modbury Special School Coordinator for Teaching and Learning, Nikola Haskell says, ‘becoming familiar with a venue like the SACA is helping students become familiar with a venue outside of their usual surroundings.’

‘It’s also giving parents an opportunity to take their children to a place where they know they will feel safe and comfortable.’
